RECINE
About Recine
For quite some time, Bob Recine has been one of the most influential hairdressers at the highest level of fashion, celebrity, and culture. Known simply as “Recine,” his artistry has been captured in iconic photographs by Helmut Newton, Irving Penn, Mario Sorrenti, Paolo Roversi, and Bruce Weber. He continues today working with modern visionaries such as Gray Sorrenti, Collier Schorr, Ethan James Green, Tyler Mitchell and Daniel Arnold.
Recine began his career when meeting Andy Warhol and Henri Bendel’s legendary creative director, Geraldine Stutz, encouraged him to work under renowned Parisian hairdresser Jean-Louis David. David recognized Recine’s abstract, brilliantly versatile approach to hair. After three years in Paris, where he became a coveted editorial stylist working with Tony Viramontes and contributing to Italian, French, and American Vogue, Recine returned to New York City.
In New York, he continued to build on his pioneering reputation as an artist who treated hair as limitless fabric, working with the supermodels of the day, including Cindy Crawford, Claudia Schiffer, Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington, Linda Evangelista, and Iman. In 1989, he opened his own salon, RECINE NEW YORK, specializing in the ‘naturalness’ of hair and creating his signature products from crushed flower petals — proclaimed by Vogue Magazine as “the supreme essence of beauty.” In 2012, Damiani Books published Bob Recine: Alchemy of Beauty, a monograph celebrating his visionary approach.
Over the years, Recine has expanded his creative reach into education, product innovation and development. He has served as Creative Director for L’Oréal Professional, created products for Estée Lauder’s RODIN Beauty line, worked with Barney’s New York, and most recently working in collaboration with Nexxus Hair Care.
From music icons to runway legends, Recine’s artistry has shaped some of the most memorable images of our time. For the past seven years, he has worked closely with Miley Cyrus, creating looks that have become cultural touchstones — including her 2024 Grammys hair, which caused a worldwide sensation dominating global headlines. He has also worked with stars such as Lady Gaga, Shakira and many others along with styling a new generation of supermodels, including Gigi and Bella Hadid, Kaia Gerber, and Kendall Jenner.
Today, Recine remains in high demand around the globe, identifying emerging photographers and artists to collaborate with and staying true to his belief that what is new must never be new for the sake of ‘newness’ — it must also be timeless.
